Healthy Habits for the Holidays

By Cara Ayala, RD, CPT, CHC

The holidays are upon us which usually means more social gatherings and opportunities to indulge.  While it’s okay to indulge here and there, it’s also important to keep some healthy habits in place during the holiday season. Here are some ideas:

  • Start the day with a workout! During the busy holiday season it becomes easier to skip nightly workouts due to all the extra events. Start your day with a workout to guarantee it will happen.

  • Eat a healthy breakfast! Start your day on the right track and it will help you make healthier decisions for the rest of the day. Have an egg white omelet filled with veggies and a side of avocado toast! This well-balanced meal will keep you full until lunch.

  • Choose healthy cocktails! Champagne, red wine and vodka sodas are all great options for lower calorie alcohol. Make sure you have one glass of water between each drink!

  • Don’t fill up on appetizers! All the holiday appetizers are tempting and can lead to eating a lot of extra calories.  Try chewing on gum or holding a drink in your hand to reduce the amount of food eaten before the main course.
