by Hailey Brady, BS, ACSM-CPT

1. Sign up for a fun run

Running might not be your idea of fun, but hear me out! Fun runs can involve crazy themes, eating, drinking, live music and entertainment, and everything in between. Popular fun runs include the Color Run, Bubble Run, Wicked Wine Run, and Brewery Running Series

Check out here and here and edit the location to find fun runs near you!

2. Join a running group near you

Talk to the LifeStart employee at your facility to get more information about our run club

Try calling your local running store and ask if they organize running groups

Or check out Road Runners Club of America to find a running club near you

3. Take a city bike tour

Check out the Bikes, Bites, and Brews tour through Bobby’s Bike Hike Chicago

4. Join a recreational sport league like beach volleyball, softball, or dodge ball

5. Go hiking at Starved rock or another state park near you

6. Canoe, kayak, or standup paddleboard in the lake or on the river

7. Plan a weekend camping getaway with family or friends

8. Take a city running tour to get to know Chicago

If you travel to a big city for business or on vacation, use Google to search for running tours. In comparison to a bus tour or walking tour, a running tour will give you the same memorable learning experience AND a great workout.
